Resumo
The scientific note reports the first record of the species Melanophryniscus klappenbachi (Klappenbach's Red-bellied Toad) in Brazil, specifically in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the southern region of the Pantanal, near the Paraguay River. Previously, the species was only known in Paraguay and Argentina. Specimens were collected from three farms located in the municipality of Porto Murtinho. This record extends the known geographic distribution of the species by approximately 90 km north of its occurrence in Paraguay. The identification was confirmed through herpetological collections and expert verification. This record is significant as it is the first for Brazil, extending the species' geographic range and suggesting new possibilities for its habitat.
