Erebonyx catacumbae, n. gen. et sp.: a blind, troglobitic cricket from Brazil (Orthoptera, Grylloidea, Phalangopsidae)
(2021) MELLO, FRANCISCO DE A. G. DE; FERREIRA, RODRIGO LOPES
Erebonyx catacumbae, new genus and species of a troglobitic phalangopsid cricket are described from Brazil. Few specimens were collected from a limestone cave located in the municipality of Campo Formoso, northern State of Bahia, in a semi-arid zone characterized by the Caatinga vegetation. A brief discussion on troglomorphisms is provided, as well as some ecological remarks and potential threats for this species.

Eukoenenia ibitipoca: the first troglobitic Palpigradi (Arachnida) from a quartzitic cave
(2019) SOUZA, MAYSA FERNANDA VILLELA REZENDE; FERREIRA, RODRIGO LOPES
Although the arachnids of the order Palpigradi are very common in subterranean habitats, no species has yet been recorded from siliciclastic caves. During a survey of cave invertebrates conducted in quartizitic caves in southern Minas Gerais state (Brazil), the occurrence of a new troglobitic palpigrade was revealed. Accordingly, in this paper we describe Eukoenenia ibitipoca sp. nov. which is readily distinguished from most species of this genus by the presence of eight pairs of setae on propeltidium.

Expanding the taxonomic knowledge of Adelosgryllus Mesa & Zefa, 2004 (Orthoptera: Grylloidea: Phalangopsidae): description of four new species for Brazilian subterranean habitats
(2022-05-03) MERLO, RAYANNE LAYS SANT’ANA; CASTRO-SOUZA, RODRIGO ANTÔNIO; JUNTA, VITOR GABRIEL PEREIRA; FERREIRA, RODRIGO LOPES
In this study, four new Brazilian species are described for the genus Adelosgryllus Mesa & Zefa, 2004, occurring in Minas Gerais, Tocantins and Pará states. Three of these species were found in caves and one was found in endogenous habitats, representing the first record of species form this genus for such habitats. The morphology of the phallic complex was used as the main criterion for distinguishing the new species, the copulatory papilla was also described for one of the new species. Finally, we bring a brief discussion about the ecology, distribution, and conservation of these species.

New troglobitic species of Xangoniscus (Isopoda: Styloniscidae) from Brazil, with notes on their habitats and threats
(2020-07-22) CARDOSO, GIOVANNA MONTICELLI; BASTOS-PEREIRA, RAFAELA; SOUZA, LEILA APARECIDA; FERREIRA, RODRIGO LOPES
In the present work, five new species of Xangoniscus are described, increasing to eight the number of the known troglobitic species for the genus. Xangoniscus species can be distinguished from each other by the shape of pleonites epimera, the number and size of aesthetascs in the distal article of antennula, the modifications on pereopods, the shape of male pleopods and the proportion between uropod rami. Species from this genus are known for the states of Minas Gerais and Bahia with Xangoniscusaganju representing the northernmost occurrence, and X. lundin. sp. and X. daguan. sp. the southernmost occurrences. Of the six caves where specimens were collected, four are not registered in the national speleological database, what points to all the potential to yet be discovered regarding number of cavities and the associated biodiversity in Brazil. Some of the here mentioned type localities are not located inside protected areas, therefore exposing the species to risks related to the adjacent land use and consequent influence on water table level and input of food resources. The contribution of this work with descriptions of new troglobitic species provides support to consider them as plausible candidates to be assessed in the next list of threatened species as well as to elaborate conservation actions for the species, the caves where they inhabit and the surrounding landscape.

The first record of Adelosgryllus Mesa & Zefa, 2004 (Orthoptera: Grylloidea: Phalangopsidae) from caves, with the description of a new species from Brazil
(2021-02-18) MERLO, RAYANNE LAYS SANT’ANA; CASTRO-SOUZA, RODRIGO ANTÔNIO; JUNTA, VITOR GABRIEL PEREIRA; FERREIRA, RODRIGO LOPES
The first species for the genus Adelosgryllus Mesa & Zefa, 2004 recorded in caves is herein described. We used the morphology of the phallic complex as the main criteria to differentiate this species from the congeneric ones. In addition, we discussed the natural history of the new species, some aspects of its association to the cave habitats, and the intraspecific variation of the right tegmen observed in two populations of this new species.

Three new cave-dwelling Eukoenenia (Palpigradi: Eukoeneniidae) from limestone caves in Northern Minas Gerais state, Brazil
(Magnolia Press, 2020-07-02) SOUZA, MAYSA FERNANDA VILLELA REZENDE; FERREIRA, RODRIGO LOPES
In this paper, we describe three new Eukoenenia species from specimens collected in limestone caves in the northern region of the Minas Gerais state, Brazil. These species present different degrees of adaptation to the subterranean habitat, with Eukoenenia magnasp. nov., with 6 blades on lateral organs and body ratios very close to other troglobitic species, being the most troglomorphic among them. This species is morphologically very similar to the Brazilian troglobites E. navi, E. eywa and E. neytiri. Eukoenenia lundisp. nov. and Eukoenenia jequitaisp. nov. are probably closely related species due to their substantial morphological resemblance. These two species are closer to E. virgemdalapa among the Brazilian species described to date. We provide a table summarizing the main diagnostic characters of the three species herein described and those of the Brazilian congeners to facilitate morphological comparisons.

Two new troglobitic species of Oxarthrius Reitter (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Pselaphinae) from Brazil
(2018-08-28) ASENJO, ANGÉLICO; ZAMPAULO, ROBSON DE ALMEIDA; FERREIRA, RODRIGO LOPES
Twonew species, Oxarthrius inexpectatus and Oxarthrius aurora, are described from caves in Minas Gerais and Tocantins states in Brazil, respectively. The major diagnostic features are illustrated and a key to the known species from Brazil is given.
